TOP 10 OF MY FAVORITE RUNNING EVENTS OF 2018
10. SQUEEZE AS MANY PEOPLE INTO A PORTA- POTTY TREND
This went viral due to the various running accounts on Instagram and Twitter, and it truly showcases the weirdness of runners as a whole, specifically Cross-Country teams. Yes, the Rocori team did participate, and got a grand total of 13 people into one porta- potty.

9. ROCORI GIRLS TRACK TEAM QUALIFYING FOR TRUE TEAM STATE
For the consecutive 5th year, and we even managed to pull the overall win as well. That makes it a total of three years being the champion true team track and field champions. Just hoping that we can make it six consecutive times this year.

8. UNEXPECTED WIN FOR MINNESOTA GOPHER IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
In the 3000 steeple race, Obasa Ali, won the race at the D1 NCAA, breaking his own personal record, breaking the school record, and landing himself on a spot as the 14th Minnesota Gopher to win a national championship.

7. SYDNEY MCLAUGHLIN GOING PRO
She took the track world by storm when she went to the Olympics in hurdling at just 16 years old. She then did her college season at Kentucky University, but her announcement of going professional caused quite a stir in the community.

6. MINNESOTA LEGEND: EMILY COVERT
The Minneapolis Washburn (MN) High School senior, who holds titles from last year's Class AA cross country race and the AA 3200m over the track and field season, is undefeated in 2018 and authored an undefeated regular season as a junior in Minnesota, too, before going on to finish second at NXR Heartland, third at Foot Locker Midwest and ninth at Foot Locker Nationals.

5. THE PING SISTER DOMINANCE
Grace and Lauren Ping have been breaking State and National records in their age group as they’ve grown into the Minnesota running Stars!

4. 34-YEAR-OLD MARATHON QUEEN
For the final five miles of the race, Linden expanded her lead and crossed the finish line, drenched from the rain and with no other runners in sight. Linden won the women’s race with an unofficial time 2:39.54 — more than 10 minutes off her personal record but a substantial effort amid Boston’s harsh weather conditions on Monday.

3. ROCORI GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM STATE BOUND
Probably the most under- rated and most successful fall sport ROCORI had this year, and it was majority middle school girls, but hey, that’s Cross- Country for you.

2. KATELYN TUOHY'S EXSISTANCE
Her performances in 2017-2018 earned her both the Gatorade Female Cross Country Player of the Year award and the Gatorade Female Track & Field Player of the Year award making her the first athlete ever to capture the award in two sports, and she won the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year award during her sophomore year. Her photo was on the cover of Sports illustrated, that summer. In October 2018, she was honored as the Track and Field News High School Girls Athlete Of The Year.

1. THE BREAKING 2 PROJECT

In May 2017, Eliud Kipchoge brought the world closer to breaking
the 2-hour marathon barrier. After falling short of 2:02:57 in Berlin,
his goal remains the same: set the new marathon world record. Leaving the Running, Science and Pycholgical world wondering:

  • Is it possible to break the 2-hour barrier in the marathon?
  • Why was this project important?
  • The training variables they focused on with each runner.
  • What he would do differently next time.
  • Applications that can be used for every day mortals.
